A Little Bit of Crochet…

I haven’t posted a photo of anything I’ve been making (or indeed finished) for quite some time.  I did have to take a break from knitting and crochet for a while (when the pain in my hands and arms got too much for me to be able to manage it), but I have been steadily getting back to regularly knitting (and crocheting) again.

In an aim to stash bust (and also due to some fairly limited funds after moving and well, with a baby on the way we need to try to save some money where possible as the 6 year age gap between no4 and no5 has seen much of the baby things I had before given away), I am trying to work through what I have in the house.

I went through a period of crocheting granny squares (as can be shown a few posts back) but they didn’t really work that well together, so I’ve separated them out into complimentary colours to do different things with them.  The ones above are to be a blanket for baby, the squares having been crocheted in Natural Dye Studio something-or-other (probably Blue-faced Leicester 4ply, but could be wrong).

The colours of this worked well with some Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino that I have, plus some Wool Cotton (or something of that ilk), so I sewed the granny squares together and am crocheting around them in the yellow, peach and blue.

As I’m joining in with the Small Things Yarn Along (see side bar too for a linky pic), I’d like to point out that I do also manage (sometimes) to read as well (although it does seem like the bulk of what I read tends to centre around education and child development in some way).  I’m re-reading “You Are Your Child’s First Teacher” by Rahima Baldwin Dancy (link is to the pre-order for the upcoming third edition).  I first read this book in 2003 when pregnant with Nin and feel that, as I’m pregnant again, it would be good to return to it and refresh myself a little.  It was THE book that set me on the path to learn more about Steiner (Waldorf) education and was such a revelation to me at the time (on the lines of *finally* a book exploring the needs of young children that I can agree with).

Also in the works, of course, are some little bits for Easter Baskets for the children – we’ll see if they’re finished on time (I’ll post pics as there’s more progress to show than a few lines here and there) – it always amazes me the number of inspiring mamas out there who get such things as dresses made for their daughters (not just one, but many) in what is only a few weeks in the lead up to Easter (I really do need to do something about my sewing machine fears!)
